Support your Year 5 students in their HASS Geography inquiry with
The Impacts of Mining Mind Map activity.
Created to coincide with Year 5 Geography V9 Australian Curriculum, this activity will provide students with the opportunity to organise their research about a mine in Australia and the impacts that the practice of mining has on the environment. Students will also be able to record mitigation strategies that mining companies can implement to reverse the damage caused to the land.
Students can explore books, video clips, news articles and websites to locate important information about mines and their environmental impacts. It is recommended that this task is printed on A3 paper, so students have enough room to record their information.
The Impacts of Mining Mind Map can be completed as a stand-alone task or in conjunction with the Mend That Mine task.
This activity is part of our Influencing and Managing Places Year 5 Geography Unit.
