Students will love creating their very own Kevin the Koala wearing a pair of cool sunglasses! This creative craft is ideal to be completed at the start of the school year after reading the story The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright.

Using the included templates, each student will create Kevin the Koala wearing a pair of sunglasses. This craft represents Kevin at the end of the story when he realises how great it is to try new things! To create Kevin’s face, students will simply cut and glue the included templates. To create Kevin’s soft ear-tufts, they can add cotton wool to his ears. Finally, students can add a pair of cool sunglasses for Kevin to wear.

To suit the needs of your class, we have included both cut and paste and ready-to-go templates. In addition to the printable templates, this resource includes detailed instructions with an example and an eye-catching banner. Use the banner to create a beautiful display of your students’ completed crafts.

Please note that to complete the craft, students will require access to cotton wool balls, scissors and craft glue. Printing the templates on card is recommended. Younger students may benefit from having the templates enlarged to A3 and will require assistance with the cutting and assembling of their crafts. To add colour, either print the templates on coloured card or provide time for students to paint them.

Top Teacher Tips:

1. Allow students to find some leaves in the garden to add to their completed craft. They could be stuck on Kevin’s head or in his mouth, just like the illustrations in the story!
2. To create a display that reflects the story’s setting, scatter leaves between the completed crafts!
