Support your Year 5 and 6 students in their Health: Interacting With Others unit of work with The Pathway to Consent task.

Created to coincide with the Year 5 and 6 Health Australian Curriculum, this activity will allow students to describe the process of seeking, giving and denying consent and communicate their intentions effectively.

To introduce the task, students will listen to a scenario about seeking, giving and denying consent ineffectively and participate in a group discussion about the process.

Then, students will complete a flowchart that includes space for a consent-seeking question of their choice and realistic responses that incorporate verbal and non-verbal cues. To conclude, they will suggest the emotions experienced when a person is denied consent and strategies that can help them to respond in an appropriate manner.

A completed version of this resource has been included which can be used as an example.
