Description

This engaging sequencing task is the perfect companion to a reading of The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. Designed to support students’ understanding of narrative structure, this activity helps learners identify key story events and organise them into a logical sequence using familiar storytelling language.

 

How to Complete

Students will sequence the events of the story. We have included two worksheet options to suit the needs of your class. Both provide the opportunity for students to summarise and illustrate the key narrative elements of the text.

 
  1. Option 1: Students are supported in recalling and ordering the events of the story by mapping the plot across six labelled boxes: introduction, problem, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.
  2. Option 2: Students will identify and summarise the events of the story by mapping the plot across eight blank boxes.
 

Blank templates and those in 12mm and 9mm line width options are provided.

 

Additional Tips

  1. Read the book as a class and pause to discuss each story stage before beginning the activity.
  2. Use a story mountain or visual sequencing cards for additional support.
  3. Enlarge the templates to A3 for ample writing and drawing space.
  4. Invite students to retell the story orally using their completed sequencing worksheets.
