This activity is designed to accompany a whole class reading of the book The Very Noisy Bear by Nick Bland.
Use this scavenger hunt-style task in your classroom, music room or outdoor nature area to allow students to explore the science of sound and how to create sound with objects. Students must explore their environment and locate different items they can use to make the sounds described in the text.
Extension activities ask students to identify and write the onomatopoeia words from the text themselves or sort objects by the way in which the sound is made (hit, shake, scrape or pluck) rather than the sound they make.
Top Teacher Tip: Don’t want to go for a big exploration? Assemble a small basket of classroom items at a table and use this task as an easy small-group activity!
