Resource, Worksheets & Activities

Description

This worksheet helps students build their understanding of hundredths by using visual models, place value tables, and written decimals. Through shading grids, identifying place value positions, and converting between decimals and words, students will develop confidence in representing and interpreting decimals up to two decimal places.

How to Complete:

  1. Section 1: Shade the Hundredths

Students shade the specified number of parts on the hundreds grid and write the corresponding decimal underneath.

  1. Section 2: Place Value Table

Students complete the place value table by writing the digits of given decimals in the correct columns.

  1. Section 3: Convert from Words to Decimal Numbers

Students write the decimal for each given combination of tenths and hundredths.

  1. Section 4: Complete the Missing Parts

Students fill in the table by converting between shaded parts, decimals and words.

Additional Tips:

  1. Encourage students to carefully count the number of shaded parts in the hundreds grid to ensure accuracy when writing the corresponding decimal.
  2. Remind students that the tenths place comes immediately after the decimal point, followed by the hundredths place.
  3. For students who may struggle with the place value table, provide additional practice by reviewing whole numbers before moving on to decimals.

Extension Ideas:

  1. Decimal Grid Challenge: Ask students to create their own decimal grids, shade a specific number of parts, and challenge a partner to write the correct decimal.
  2. Comparing Decimals: Have students practise comparing two decimals from the worksheet using greater than (>), less than (<), or equal to (=) symbols.
  3. Real-World Decimals: Provide real-world contexts where hundredths are used, such as money or measurements, and ask students to represent those values as decimals.
