Description
This engaging and interactive set of worksheets helps students develop a solid understanding of tenths as part of a whole. Through a series of structured tasks, students will practise recognising, shading, and representing tenths using decimal notation. They will also complete number lines and answer short questions designed to reinforce their conceptual understanding of place value and decimals.
How to Complete:
- Section 1: Shade the Tenths Students will be presented with bar models divided into ten equal parts. For each bar model, they are asked to shade a specific number of parts and write the corresponding decimal underneath.
- Section 2: Place the Decimals on the Number Line Students will be given a number line ranging from 0 to 1, divided into ten equal intervals. They must place specific decimals at the correct positions on the number line. This reinforces their understanding of the relative size of decimals.
- Section 3: Fill in the Blanks Students will answer questions related to the place value of tenths, recording their responses in decimal form.
- Section 4: Answer the Questions Students will answer short questions designed to encourage critical thinking and application of decimal knowledge.
Additional Tips:
- As students place decimals on the number line, remind them to check that intervals are evenly spaced to avoid errors.
- Prior to completing the task, review the concept of tenths, ensuring that students understand how decimals relate to fractions. For example, 1 tenth = 0.1 = 1/10.
Extension Ideas:
- Number Line Challenge: Challenge students to create their own number line problems for a partner to solve.
- Decimal Conversion: Have students convert decimals into fractions and vice versa as an additional activity.
- Real-World Decimals: Provide real-world contexts where tenths are used, such as measuring distances. For example, if a runner completes 0.7 km of a 1 km race, how far is left to run?
