Up & Down the River: A Game of Chance Board Game is a fantastic method for your students to apply their knowledge of probability in a practical way!

This board game requires minimal preparation. Students only require 2 six-sided dice, 40 counters and a board game to play, making it easy to utilise within the classroom in a variety of ways.

In this 2-player game, students spread their counters along the number pebbles on their respective side of the river, based on the probability of the combination being rolled by 2 six-sided dice. Students remove the counters as they achieve the different combinations on the dice. The winner is the student who has removed all their pebbles off the board first. To enhance the game, students can record the results of each roll and calculate them as a percentage and fraction.

This board game would work well as an introduction to the concept of probability, a conclusion to a lesson or as an activity in a maths rotation.
