Description
Vocabulary Tic Tac Toe: Using Complex Words Game turns vocabulary building into a strategic and interactive partner activity. Using a familiar game format, students are encouraged to practise complex words in context through spoken sentences, developing word meaning, oral fluency and expressive language skills as they play.
Players take turns placing vocabulary cards on a tic tac toe board, aiming to make three in a row while correctly using each word in conversation. To place a card, students must read the word aloud and use it in a complete sentence. This repeated use of words in meaningful contexts supports long-term retention and reinforces both speaking and comprehension skills. With optional recording sheets included, students can also write down their sentences or definitions as part of their reflection.
The resource includes over 90 vocabulary word cards across a wide range of categories, plus editable templates to suit specific units or focus areas. This makes it an ideal game for differentiation, review or small group enrichment. Whether you're targeting Tier 2 vocabulary, content-specific terms or student-selected words, this game supports purposeful language learning in a fun and collaborative way.
