Use this super flexible game to practise and record student progress with adding and subtracting decimals!

To play, students flip cards one at a time until two cards In a row have at least one number in the same decimal place. When this happens, the first student to whack the card pile gets the opportunity to take all the cards for themselves. However, they must first answer an addition or subtraction sum built by the other players using the two whacked cards; if they get it wrong, the pile stays in the middle. The last player left with cards is the winner!

We’ve provided several useful resources to construct this game in whatever way suits your class and context, including:

• Answer recording sheets you can use to mark and record progress – use the A4 page with instructions included or the 2-to-a-page template.
• Cards with 2 decimal places and 3 decimal places – we recommend mixing both sets together, but you can separate them if needed.
• Optional card backing sheets – print as many as required on thick cardstock and glue to the back of the cards to keep your items lasting longer and stop cheeky peeking through the card!
• Colour and black & white printing options included.

Want to change it up? Practise estimation, task students with rounding the top card to the nearest decimal of your choice or add calculators and manipulatives. You could also use these cards for other games including Memory, Go Fish and more. Let your imagination run wild!
