Description

Celebrate World Environment Day with this set of worksheets related to sustainability! This resource allows students to reflect upon their daily routines and consider how they could be more sustainable. This resource includes three variations to suit the needs of your class. As each option is different, you can opt to use one, two or all three tasks!
  1. Students draw a daily routine on the storyboard template. They must consider how to make each step sustainable. Once their drawings are complete, they can describe how their routine was sustainable on the lines below.
  2. Students are given a simple daily routine broken into 3 steps. They will cut and paste the steps in order and write a sentence below to describe how the action can be sustainable. Please note there are 2 versions of this task.
  3. Students are given 4 boxes, each with a daily activity. They must draw how they could carry out the activity sustainably.
Below are some ideas for how the daily tasks and routines can be made more sustainable:
  1. Getting ready in the morning: avoid wasting food, avoid consuming food and drink with excess packaging, put food scraps in the compost bin, turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth, turn off the light and electronics before leaving the house, walk or ride to school
  2. Spending the day at school: do not waste paper, use both sides of the paper, recycle paper instead of throwing it in the bin, bring recess and lunch in a reusable lunchbox/containers, avoid bringing food with excess packaging, drink from a reusable water bottle, turn off the lights when the class leaves the classroom
  3. Brushing your teeth: turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth
  4. Leaving your room: turn off the light, turn off any electronics, and close the curtains to keep the room cool in hot weather
  5. Grocery shopping: walk to the shops, bring reusable shopping bags, avoid buying products with too much packaging
  6. Having a drink of water: don’t leave the tap running, drink from a reusable drink bottle
