Our World’s Best Mum Necklace is the perfect combination of craft, writing and personal expression, and makes a wonderful gift for students’ mums or special caregivers this Mother’s Day. Students will enjoy creating a beautiful necklace featuring a decorated heart pendant with a thoughtful message on the back.

How to Complete

This resource is editable, so you can adjust the text to suit your students’ needs.

1. Print the heart templates and cut them out. They are designed to be printed back-to-back but can also be glued back to back if printed separately.
2. Students write a special message on the lined back of the pendant (24mm, 18mm and 14mm lines are included). Alternatively, younger students can use the blank heart to draw a picture.
3. Provide art and craft supplies for students to decorate the front of the heart, such as sequins, gem stickers, glitter or pom poms.
4. An adult will need to assist in punching two holes at the top of the heart. Thread string or ribbon through the holes, leaving the loose ends at the back.
5. Students can then thread beads or dried pasta along the string, then tie the ends together to complete the necklace. This is a great opportunity for students to practise their fine motor skills!

Additional Tips

1. Hang the finished necklaces on a bulletin board to create a heartwarming Mother’s Day gallery wall. Print one of our Mother’s Day banners to enhance your display.
2. Encourage older students to write a short poem - such as a haiku - on the back of the pendant for a personal touch.

This fun, hands-on task strengthens students' ability to write for a purpose while giving them the opportunity to express gratitude and affection for their mothers.
