Description

Complete different tasks at the farm with every correct answer, from planting seeds to growing and collecting fruit, fixing tractors and mending fences. A farmer’s work is never done! With every successful response, students help keep the farm running smoothly—one job at a time.

In this version, students use a zoo map to answer questions about the position and direction of different animals using compass directions. Whether identifying what’s east of the lion or north of the penguins, students practise interpreting spatial relationships and directional language in a real-world setting.

Let’s Farm – Zoo Compass Directions is perfect for Year 2–4 students developing location and direction skills. Use it during geography or measurement units, in rotations, or for independent play via QR code. This task-based game reinforces understanding while engaging students in a fun farm-and-zoo themed adventure!

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Use compass directions (north, south, east, west) to describe position
  • ✅ Interpret spatial relationships on a map
  • ✅ Develop map-reading and directional language skills
  • ✅ Strengthen understanding of relative location through real-world examples
  • ✅ Engage in interactive, task-based gameplay that builds confidence with spatial concepts

How to Play:

  1. Students are shown a map of a zoo with animal enclosures labelled.
  2. They are asked questions about the position of animals using compass directions (e.g. “Which animal is south of the giraffe?”).
  3. Each correct answer helps complete a farm task such as harvesting or repairing.
  4. Some tasks may require more than one correct answer to complete, encouraging persistence and accuracy.
  5. At the end, students receive a summary showing all the jobs they completed on the farm!

Ideas for Classroom Use:

  • 💡 Use during maths or geography lessons exploring position and direction
  • 💡 Great for Year 2–4 students practising directional vocabulary
  • 💡 Pair with a follow-up map-making activity where students create their own zoo or farm maps
  • 💡 Reinforce learning with a physical compass scavenger hunt around the classroom

Top Teacher Tips:

  • 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins
  • 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play
