Analysing Graphs & Charts LET’S ROLL
Description
Grab the dice and get ready to roll your way through an exciting data-driven journey! As students move across the colourful game board, they’ll travel through mini-worlds inspired by other digi-games, collecting points with every correct answer they provide.
Throughout the adventure, students will examine different data sets and decide which type of graph best represents the information. From bar graphs to picture graphs, pie charts and more, they’ll develop their ability to analyse, interpret, and reason about data displays in a dynamic and visual way. The game encourages mathematical thinking and strengthens students’ confidence in data literacy.
Let’s Roll – Analysing Graphs & Charts combines movement, challenge and choice as students engage in a hands-on game designed to support classroom goals around data interpretation. With each question, they’ll apply critical thinking skills to determine the most effective visual representation for a given data scenario.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- ✅ Identify different types of data displays, including bar graphs, pie charts and picture graphs
- ✅ Determine which type of graph best represents a given data set
- ✅ Develop data literacy and critical thinking through graph comparison
- ✅ Use mathematical language to justify decisions about graph selection
How to Play:
- Players begin by rolling the dice to move around the board.
- Each player answers a data-related question when they land on a space.
- Questions require students to choose the best graph for representing a specific data set.
- Correct answers earn points – the more correct responses, the more points collected.
- The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
Ideas for Classroom Use:
- 💡 Use during a data and graphing unit as an engaging review activity.
- 💡 Have students play in pairs or teams to discuss and justify their graph choices.
- 💡 Project the game and play together as a class, pausing to reflect on why certain graphs are more suitable.
- 💡 Reinforce terminology by referring back to classroom anchor charts or reference posters during gameplay.
Top Teacher Tips:
- 💛 Pre-teach the features of each graph type to ensure students are equipped to make informed decisions.
- 💛 Encourage students to explain their thinking using sentence starters like “I chose this graph because...”
- 💛 After the game, extend learning by having students create their own data sets and design matching graphs.
Let’s Roll – Analysing Graphs & Charts turns graph interpretation into a rolling adventure – full of movement, discovery, and learning through play!
