A great start of year activity!   Included is a recipe poster and three differentiated follow-up writing templates.   This recipe provides students with a great reminder as to the skills needed to be successful.   As a class, talk about each of the skills/values included in the recipe and what each one means when it comes to being successful. You can then use the recipe templates to have each student write their own recipe, based on what they feel is most important for their own success in the classroom.   A fun follow-up activity could be to have students create their own "super success food" recipe. Use lots of different breakfast ingredients and match these to the success recipe skill amounts. For example, 1 cup cornflakes, 1/2 cup rice bubbles, 1/2 cup sultanas, 2 tablespoons of chopped apple, 2 tablespoons of chopped apricots and a sprinkle of coconut. Store in ziplock bags and have students take home for their very own super successful breakfast or snack.   You could then use the recipe templates to have each student record the recipe for their super success food to consolidate the activity with some writing. Finish by taking a picture of each student with a chef's hat on and with their super success food, and use it as part of a display with their recipe writing.
