Description

Looking for a heartfelt, hands-on gift idea for Mother’s Day? Our Mother’s Day Fingerprint Flower Bookmarks are a beautiful way for students to create a keepsake their mums and caregivers will treasure for years to come. This low-prep activity combines art and poetry into one sweet and thoughtful present.

Check out this video below to see this resource in action.

Each student will use their finger or thumbprint to create a unique flower on their bookmark, paired with a loving poem that celebrates all the little things mums do. This craft is a wonderful opportunity to talk about appreciation and gratitude, while allowing students to practise fine motor skills and creativity.

This activity also lends itself to flexibility - whether you want to keep it simple with just paint and card, or jazz it up with tassels, ribbon and glitter, it’s a beautiful addition to any Mother’s Day classroom celebration.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • ✅ Express appreciation and gratitude through written and visual art
  • ✅ Strengthen fine motor skills through fingerprint painting and cutting
  • ✅ Follow multi-step instructions to complete a finished craft
  • ✅ Practise personal expression and individual creativity

What’s Included

Materials Needed

  • Optional: glitter, ribbon or tassels, hole punch, laminating pouches
  • Scissors or a guillotine for cutting

How to Use

  1. Print and cut out the bookmarks – we suggest using a guillotine for fast and neat results.
  2. Have students draw a stem using a green marker before adding any paint.
  3. Using their finger and thumb, students dip into paint or ink and press onto the card to create a flower head and leaves.
  4. If desired, sprinkle glitter over the paint while it’s still wet for some sparkle.
  5. Let bookmarks dry completely before backing onto coloured card and laminating for durability.
  6. Punch a hole at the top and add ribbon or a tassel for a finishing touch.

Ideas for Classroom Use

  • 💡 Use as part of a Mother’s Day gift station alongside cards or letters
