Description
CVC Roll a Word is a fun and interactive way for students to develop their understanding of CVC words. By rolling three dice, students will generate letter combinations and determine whether they have formed a real word. This hands-on approach encourages phonemic awareness, letter recognition, and spelling skills, making it a valuable addition to any literacy program.
How to Complete
To play, students will roll each of the three dice (one with beginning consonants, one with vowels, and one with ending consonants). Students will record the letters they roll on the included recording mat or worksheet. Students will then determine if it is a real CVC word. If students have created a real CVC word, they colour in the thumbs-up icon. If the word is not a real word, they colour the thumbs-down icon.
Additional Tips
- Encourage students to segment and blend the sounds before deciding if it is a real word.
- Place the recording mat in a write-and-wipe sleeve for students to use with a dry-erase marker.
Extension Ideas
- Sentence Writing: Once a real word is formed, students can write it in a sentence.
- Partner or Group Play: Students can take turns rolling the dice and challenge each other to find the most words.
