Description

Race around the track in this fast-paced game. Watch as your car zooms along the race track with every question answered correctly. With each turn, students speed closer to victory—who will cross the finish line first and earn a spot on the winner’s podium?

In this version, students use a map of the farm to answer questions about the location and direction of different animals using compass directions. From identifying what’s north of the chicken coop to what lies west of the barn, this game strengthens understanding of spatial relationships and directional language in a meaningful and engaging way.

Let’s Race – Farm Compass Directions is ideal for Year 2–4 students developing map skills and directional understanding. Use it during your geometry or geography lessons, in learning rotations, or as an independent activity using the QR code for interactive, farm-themed fun.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Use compass directions (north, south, east, west) to describe position
  • ✅ Interpret relative locations on a simple map
  • ✅ Strengthen spatial awareness and map-reading skills
  • ✅ Build vocabulary related to direction and position
  • ✅ Engage in competitive, fast-paced gameplay that reinforces key concepts

How to Play:

  1. Students roll the dice and move their car along the themed race track.
  2. They land on a space and are shown a farm map with labelled animal enclosures.
  3. They must answer a question using compass directions (e.g. “What is east of the sheep paddock?”).
  4. Correct answers speed up their car, while incorrect ones slow them down.
  5. The game continues until all questions are answered. The player with the most points or who crosses the finish line first wins!

Ideas for Classroom Use:

  • 💡 Use during maths or geography units focused on position and direction
  • 💡 Great for Year 2–4 students practising compass direction and spatial language
  • 💡 Pair with a physical classroom map activity for hands-on reinforcement
  • 💡 Follow up with a student-designed farm map and direction challenge

Top Teacher Tips:

  • 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins
  • 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play
  • 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task

Let’s Race – Farm Compass Directions combines fast-paced fun with spatial thinking—making every turn on the track a new opportunity to master location and direction!
