Use this activity after a reading of the text Family Tree by Josh Pyke. The story follows the growth and lifecycle of a tree, alongside the growth and change within a family.

Midway through the story the author talks about how the seeds of the gum tree fly away, dancing on the air – seeking out somewhere to establish a new tree. This resource contains a template to create a paper helicopter, featuring images of leaves and gum nuts to look similar to the illustrations of the gum leaves and seeds.

A blank version has also been included for students to design their own.
