This purposeful activity has been designed to accompany a whole class reading of the picture book Macca the Alpaca by Matt Cosgrove. These no-prep worksheets will challenge your students to rewrite sentences using synonyms for key words.

Synonym Sentences provides a purposeful opportunity for students to develop their language skills, demonstrating their ability to replace like for like words. Students can use a thesaurus or the Internet to research words.

Two versions of this worksheet are included, both in 18mm and 24mm line options. One version has space for one sentence to be rewritten and an accompanying picture to be drawn, the other has space for two sentences to be rewritten. Younger students may benefit from the resource being enlarged to A3 size to allow more space for writing and drawing.

Top Teacher Tip: Create a fun, whole-class activity by putting the completed one sentence worksheets together in a book that will retell the story of Macca the Alpaca in a different way. Not all sentences have been included for rewriting, so some will need to be added to the book once students have completed their work.
