This animal-themed maths resource allows your students to practise using their research and place value skills.

A range of animal facts are provided and students need to find the answers that all feature numbers beyond 10 000. They must write the numbers in the place value grids, as well as write them in words. This activity also helps students to quantify large numbers using real word situations.

Three versions of the worksheet are provided. The first focuses on numbers from 10 000 to 99 999. The second version uses numbers between 100 000 and 999 999. The third version has numbers from 1 000 000 to 99 999 999. You could use the different versions as a learning progression or to help with differentiation.

When you have decided which version of the worksheet to give to which students, you can print the number of copies that you need, source some research devices and begin the activity. Helpful answer sheets are also provided, although answers may vary.
