This activity helps students identify how symbols were used to communicate between different groups of First Nations Australians.
To complete the Symbol Story close activity, the students must circle the correct word within each sentence (e.g. ‘a’ or ‘an’) and complete each sentence by cutting and pasting an appropriate symbol of their choice so the story still makes sense. There is the option of 15 symbols to choose from which have been designed by a First Nations Australian artist.
Show the children how they can insert different symbols into the story and explain how some will work better than others.
